Last nights Athletic Awards were very impressive to me. This was my first year attending them. It is truly amazing how many talented, disciplined, hard working students we have in our school district. To all of the parents, families, and friends that have motivated and supported these students throughout the year by dedicating their time and talents, hats off!!   Although there were many individuals helping out with ceremony last night, I would like to give extra recognition to Janet Johnson.  She seems to always be at every event. Having worked non-stop all day with constant interruptions from students and parents, (like myself) with our never ending questions.  It amazes me how she always has an answer or knows exactly where to send us for the answer.  Janet has supported all of us regardless of who we are, what sport we have concerns about, and how important or unimportant are issue may be.  For more years than most of our children have been alive!!!! If you are reading this blog and Janet has ever done anything for you, no matter how big or small you should take this opportunity to say "Thanks" by sending her an e-mail at johnja@whsd.k12.pa.us .  So, here's to you Janet Johnson for all your support and consistent dedication to our children!!!

Football is a rough and tough sport, so mom's get use to it.  I remember the first time my son got hurt in the game.  Nothing serious, but my every instinct was to run down to the field, and I did.  Talk about being mortified, not me, but my son.  Understand mom's that we humilate our boys and young men when we run down to the field at every little incident.  As mom's we have to have tough skin, and I know that is no easy feat, but it is necessary.  Our boys know what the game consists of, and if they can endure, so can we.

Dreams 05/10/2008

Probably the most exciting time of a beings life is when they're not awake.  While sleeping one gets the advantage of living out their fantasy, they are involved with people in various situations, and are afforded the opportunity to visit places known and unknown, all while asleep.  However, dreams can become a reality.  Take for example Oprah Winfrey one of the richest women in the world, dreamed of being a famous journalist, and look where she is today.  Steve Breaston, who dreamed of being a professional football player, has reached his goal.  Charlie Batch, quarterback for the Steelers, dreamed of giving back to his community, and playing football has enabled him to do that.  Madame C.J. Walker had a dream in which she was given the ingredients for hair products that would prevent hair breakage for African American women, and as a result she became the first female American self-made millionaire.  There are countless of other individuals who dreamed a dream, which became a reality.  This is to say, don't ever give up on your dreams and aspirations.  Oftentimes, you will encounter roadblocks and hurdles on your pathway when striving towards your destiny.  Nonetheless, these obstacles are there to make you stronger, to help you grow, and create character.  So, that when you do reach your goal, you can look back with appreciation and gratitude for those stumbling blocks, because, although they may have slowed you a bit, they did not prevent you from reaching your ULTIMATE destination.  Don't stop EVER stop dreaming, don't listen to the naysayers, and never look at your present situation, because DREAMS DO COME TRUE!

Class of 2009 05/08/2008

As we approach the 2008 - 2009 school year, many parents who have young men and ladies graduating next year, may be feeling a little nostalgic, or at least I am.  My son will be preparing for his next journey in life, college.  As I look back on how fast the years have gone, I begin to wonder did I instill into his life all the necessary tools needed to begin this quest.  To persevere, when all you want to do is quit.  Excellence, even though it seems that everything around you is mediocre.  Goodness, when evil is ever present.  Longsuffering, though we live in a society that is intolerant of others.  Above all LOVE, when others destest your very existence.  Then I look at the fine young man that he has turned out to be, and say to myself, ABSOLUTELY!!!  Yes, parents it is hard to let go, but if they were raised to do all that is good, decent and productive, your job is done, and those virtues will not wane.

To the Football Wolverines...MUCH SUCCESS IN THE COMING YEAR!!!

CLASS OF 2009...ALWAYS REMEMBER WHAT YOU DO IS A REFLECTION OF YOUR PARENTS!
